With Catherine Mayne
This course is the perfect introduction to dressmaking, garment sewing and a great project for beginner level sewers. In this full day workshop you will make yourself a simple skirt. You will cover how to read dress patterns, do basic pattern alterations to fit your measurements, cut and prepare fabric for sewing, then sew a skirt with waistband or facing with a zipper to fit you!
You will practice sewing a zipper, before sewing the zipper for your skirt, either a concealed/invisible zipper or a regular, lapped zipper. You will then apply your newly acquired skills to cut, fit and sew a skirt for yourself. Select from a couple of skirt styles that will be provided, then bring along your own beautiful fabric to create a simple skirt. Choose from a classic A-line skirt, a pleated tulip skirt or simple pencil skirt.
Please note, you need to have recent sewing experience to attend this workshop. You should be of at least beginner level, and able to set up and operate a sewing machine independently. If you would like to learn how to sew to attend this workshop or you need a refresher you can attend our Introduction to Sewing Course.
