Create your own handmade wardrobe and make a pair of pants! Find joy in creating your own custom clothes and embrace slow fashion.
Pants are a staple wardrobe item, but sometimes it can be hard to find good fitting pants. In our beginner-level workshop you will make a pair of simple pants to learn new sewing techniques for garment making.
Keeping it simple, we will be making a pair of pants from woven, non-stretch fabric that doesn’t have a zipper. Pants with an elasticated waist or drawstring are a good place to start for a pair of comfortable pants. Bring your own pattern or we can recommend one.
What you will learn in our full day workshop:
- learn how to take body measurements
- learn how to read and prepare a commercial sewing pattern
- do small pattern alterations to fit your size
- customise your pant pattern to get the perfect leg length
- make a piece of clothing with pockets
- learn how to lay up your fabric, lay your pattern pieces and cut your fabric
- read pattern instructions and learn sewing terminology
- sew your garment together
- use an overlocker to finish your edges
- understand the order of operations, the order of each step
- learn how to perfect the fit of your sewn garment
- learn finishing techniques for a professional look
Please
note, you need to have recent sewing experience to attend this workshop. You should be of at least beginner skill level, and able to set up and operate a sewing machine independently. Zoë is a Fashion Designer, Graphic Designer and Artist, who values creativity and sustainability in all aspects of life. Zoë graduated with a Bachelor of Fashion Design from Fashion Design Studio (Ultimo TAFE) and has sewn, stitched and knitted since she was 5.
