With Maz Wong
Make a small-sized backpack from a pair of old jeans! This bag making workshop is all about upcycling and getting creative using as much upcycled, remnant and recycled materials as possible. Join Maz for an introduction to making bags and create your own unique backpack.
You will need to bring in an old pair of jeans you don’t wear anymore. Learn how to cut it up and use some of its details to create a one-of-a-kind bag. If you don’t have a pair of jeans to cut up, you could use another pair of pants made from a durable fabric or upcycle some fabric instead.
Your backpack will be fully lined for durability and a professional look. It will have adjustable straps, a drawstring opening, bag flap with closure (choose from a magnetic claps, button and button hole, snap fastener or other creative upcycled options).
This is a really fun sewing workshop that will make you get creative and thinking resourcefully about how you can create with useful materials that might not have gotten a second life. We will provide the pattern for a small-sized backpack which is also the perfect size for a child. You will need to supply your own jeans, fabrics and accessories.
Please note, you need to have recent sewing experience to attend this workshop. You should be of at least beginner skill level, and able to set up and operate a sewing machine independently. If you would like to learn how to sew to attend this workshop or you need a refresher you can attend our Introduction to Sewing Course.
